I Am Safe
Sometimes a scared feeling shows up.
It can come at night.
Or when things feel loud.
Or when you don’t know what will happen next.
Your heart might beat faster.
You might feel jumpy.
You might want to hide.
Or stay very still.
The feeling whispers:
“Something bad could happen.”
“I need to watch out.”
“I need to stay ready.”
So you listen carefully.
You look around.
You try to stay in control.
Even when nothing bad is happening,
the feeling might still be there.
It can feel like you are not safe.
But here is something quiet and true.
Right now, in this moment,
nothing bad is happening to you.
You are not in danger right now.
You are not about to be taken away.
You are not about to be surprised.
You are here.
You are okay.
You are being held.
You do not need to stay alert to be safe.
You do not need to watch everything.
You do not need to protect yourself right now.
You are allowed to relax.
You are allowed to breathe more slowly.
You do not need to be ready for anything right now.
Nothing bad is going to happen
in this moment.
You are safe to sit here.
You are safe to be quiet.
You are safe to rest.
And right now,
you are held,
you are at peace,
and you are deeply loved.
